Q. It's funny to think I wasted years of my life going to college when it wasn't needed. Go figure!

A. It all depends on what you mean by "it wasn't needed." Studies in school are designed to build skills and neuron highways throughout the brain. And, yes, it is possible to do that in ways other than going to college. My brain's opinion is that having a piece of paper stating you were able to complete a specific level of formal education can open doors that otherwise might remain closed to you (especially during a recession). The piece of paper (i.e., degree) doesn't guarantee that you'll be hired or retained if you are hired, but sometimes it allows you to get your foot in the door....
