Minding Emotions

SEMINAR DESCRIPTION

Human beings routinely seem to have difficulty managing their emotions and feelings effectively. In adulthood, many of us operate on the basis of attitudes and beliefs that we acquired by the age of five. No wonder we get into trouble around emotions, feelings, and relationships!

This seminar is designed to increase our understanding of emotions and feelings (e.g., we often use these terms interchangeably to our detriment). The core emotions are defined (e.g., joy, anger, fear, sadness) along with consequences for avoiding dealing with the protective emotions. Tips for managing emotions and feelings are provided along with examples of ways in which to use the emotional tone scale (a tool) to our advantage.

SUGGESTED TIME FRAME

60 - 90 minutes in one or two sessions

TARGET AUDIENCE

Individuals who want to manage their emotions and feelings more effectively and who want to role-model this to others.

SEMINAR OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the seminar, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the difference between emotions and feelings
  • List the four core emotions
  • Describe the emotional tone scale and it's application to everyday living
  • State two benefits of learning to manage emotions and feelings more effectively
  • Define two strategies for effective management of emotions and feelings
