How to raise and leverage your Emotional Intelligence for success
The concept of Emotional Intelligence involves a set of skills related to your understanding of emotions and feelings and how you practically apply this information in everyday living -- personally and professionally. Studies estimate that EQ accounts for 80% of your overall success in life (with only 20% being attributed to your IQ). A working definition is, The ability to know what feels good, what feels bad, and how to get from bad to good in a way that results in positive outcomes. Many people know what feels bad and have tried to get from bad to feeling better. Often they have done so using a strategy (e.g., addictive behavior) that did not result in positive outcomes. Then there is yet another mess to clean up . . .
Raising your EQ by design requires an understanding of the difference between emotions and feelings along with characteristics that are typically exhibited by individuals with high levels of EQ. This presentation combines information from two seminars: Emotions and Feeling and Emotional Intelligence.
It is designed to explore the difference between emotions and feelings, describe the Emotions Staircase and how to climb up, outlines characteristics of high versus low EQ, explains a correlation between EQ and success, and provides strategies on how to raise your EQ. It includes information about the landmark Marshmallow Experiment and the correlation between an ability to delay gratification and overall success in life (even in one's SAT scores). There is good news. Since EQ is learned, you can develop and raise yours any time you want to work on it!
