Not long ago I completed the Benziger Thinking Styles Assessment (BTSA) and had the privilege of attending The Brain Program. Information Dr. Taylor shared about brain function (obviously one of her favorite topics) has had a major impact on my life and has resulted in some very positive changes.

All through life I have found myself comparing myself to other people. These comparisons would occur most frequently when I would observe others excelling, or when I was greatly interested in an event or concept that seemed to drain my energy but noticed that it did not seem to have the same effect on the energy level of others. When that happened I tended to feel lazy or even dumb as compared to them. I also thought that others should be equally energized by the same types of things that charged me up. When they were not, I would be puzzled and often wondered about the procrastination or rebellious spirit they seemed to exhibit.

Now, as a result of this dynamic seminar, the dots are being connected ongoing! I am learning to manage my time and activities more effectively in relation to who I am innately, and to direct my attention into areas that are more energy-efficient for my brain. I am also learning how to pace myself when engaged in activities that drain my energy. Consequently I am now much more comfortable and at home with myself and with others.

How helpful to know that each person’s brain is as unique as the person’s thumbprint! This is a process and a journey I greatly value. Thanks to Dr. Taylor for unfolding a critical human dynamic that has changed me forever.
