There are a few deadly triggers but fortunately most of us won’t have to deal with them. My new article: The Long Good-Bye--Alzheimer’s Disease, addresses one of those deadly triggers.

What’s right in the middle of nowhere?

News Note

The book, Mind Wide Open: Your Brain and the Neuroscience of Everyday Life, by Steven Johnson, is a 2004 release from Scribner. As the flyleaf promises, the author’s clear and engaging explanations of brain function highlight aptitudes and fears, skills and weaknesses and desires, and the momentary brain phenomena that a whole human life comprises.

Learning about the brain’s mechanics can expand your self-awareness “as powerfully as any therapy or meditation or drug.” Brain science can be personally transformative--a valuable tool for achieving better relationships and an enhanced quality of life--if you apply the information to everyday living.

Point to Ponder

The one who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the one doing it. --Chinese Proverb

Occasionally I hear individuals (I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt) say that figuring out who one is innately and learning to live authentically is “a really impossible job.” My stance is that all things are possible in some way or another--the impossible just takes a little longer... perhaps even a lifetime. While we may never achieve an absolutely authentic state of being, I, for one, intend to pursue that goal as long as I am alive on this planet. And while I’ve learned to smile politely (or grimace as the case may be) when such comments swirl about, inwardly I’m usually quoting the above proverb... and chuckling.
