New Articles

Dr. Arlene TaylorYour ability to implement and sustain a high-level-wellness lifestyle has a lot to do with how much energy you have. Repeatedly I receive questions about how food and micronutrition impact brain/body energy. My article, Energy--Your Bottom Line, includes information about the connection between micronutrition and energy.

Recipes

soupAs you know, the brain requires fuel (glucose) in order to think. Complex carbohydrates can be a healthy source. Last January my cousins in Portland introduced me to a 7-Grain Hot Cereal that I have been enjoying on a regular basis, especially on chilly winter mornings. That reminds me: Some of you have asked for my Butternut Squash Soup and Carrot Ginger Soup recipes. They are now posted on my web site.

News Note

Balance Your Brain--Balance Your LifeThe book, Balance Your Brain--Balance Your Life by Dr. Jay Lombard and Dr. Christian Renna, is subtitled: 28 Days to Feeling Better Than You Ever Have. The authors propose that you can boost your health, energy, and happiness by balancing five key neurotransmitters. They reference new studies that shed light on contributing factors for a plethora of conditions (e.g., OCD, PTSD, MS, and depression). Strategies to correct neurotransmitter imbalances utilizing customized 28-day programs of exercise, diet, supplements, and herbs are included. A questionnaire is provided along with a list of effects that neurotransmitter imbalances can have on one’s life and health. Although I rarely agree with everything in any book, this one sheds some interesting light in several directions and offers plenty of food for thought.

Point to Ponder

If the bullet doesn’t have your name on it, get out of its way. --Friedman

I laughed aloud when I read Friedman’s words. How true! It is vitally important to avoid becoming a symptom bearer for someone else. More often that you might think, bullets are shot randomly and were never specifically directed at you. Increasing your awareness, learning how to dodge danger quickly, creating and setting appropriate boundaries, and avoiding taking things personally can be helpful strategies. So can learning to mind your own business. I think it is possible to attract bullets by becoming enmeshed in situations that would be best left to the involved parties for resolution.
