New Article
You
may be finding it interesting, as I am, to notice the rhetoric
about low-fat versus low-carb diets. Those of you who have
read my article entitled The Diet Trap and How to Escape
already know my position on fad diets! I recommend creating,
implementing, and maintaining balanced and appropriate nutritional
habits.
Of the current controversy, however, I'm much more in favor
of a low-fat than a low-carb diet. The brain is better
off without simple carbs (e.g., sugar or anything that
ends in ose, such as high fructose corn syrup), but
it does need complex carbohydrates to function effectively.
Immune System
What
is good for the immune system is generally good for the

ImPAX Articles
My talented webmaster, Jacqueline Hegarty of Hegarty
Services, has just uploaded a collection of articles that
I have written for IMPaX HealthPrime Inc. You may want to
access some of them, as well.
Seminars
For
most of the month of July I'll be involved in presenting informal
"mini" seminars as I travel in Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway,
Lap Land, and Russia. That means I'll be chatting with others
about brain function information as our brains are stimulated
by the cultures and environments we are experiencing.
August 19-20, 2004, Menucha Convention Center, east
of Portland, Oregon. I will present three 90-minute seminars
on brain function, male- female differences, and brain-body
communication. Hosts are Leif Kirschenbaum and Fred Casey.
September 3-6, 2004 (Labor Day Weekend), Siloam Springs,
Arkansas. I have been invited by Russ and Cheryl Potter
of The Concerned Group Inc. to present several seminars on
brain-function information, including The Brain Program.

News Note
Emotions
and feelings are areas of research that have been somewhat
shied away from in the past, and more recently embraced. Joseph
LeDoux, a neuroscientist and author of books such as The
Emotional Brain, and Synaptic Self--How Our Brains
Become Who We Are, is one researcher who is not afraid
to venture where others may fear to tread.
One purpose of his research lab is to design studies that
will help people to better understand the biology of emotions,
such as fear. His work suggests that it is important to study
thinking and feeling, emotions and cognition,
and not isolate them from each other.
I have found some of his work very interesting. You might

Point to Ponder
Knowledge of self is the critical factor in one's ability
to create a satisfying and fulfilling life. -- Andrea
Gabor
This quote mirrors others that you may be familiar with
such as the truth sets you free. We do create our own
lives. Even when we don't personally select every experience
or event, we choose the way in which we respond to the experience
or event. The more we know about our innate giftedness, the
more we understand about brain function in general and ours
in particular, the more likely we are to consciously take
the needed steps to ensure that our lives are as satisfying
and fulfilling as it is possible for us to create. The sky's
the limit!
