New Article
Are
you caught in a whirlwind of activities rushing you toward exhaustion
and burnout? Do you know someone who is? Can the symptoms be observed
in males? Absolutely!
Since the syndrome doesn't apply exclusively to females, I now
prefer the more generic term, "SuperPerson," the title of my recent
article: The SuperPerson Syndrome.

New Resource
In
response to requests from students and seminar participants who
want to become better acquainted with an emerging body of knowledge
about the amazing human brain, I am providing a new resource: Selected
References.
Most of the topics that eventually will be posted on the
website relate quite directly to the brain. Others will relate
to personal growth, addiction, recovery, or other topics such
as the SuperPerson.
In line with The SuperPerson article, you may want to check
out Selected References for the SuperPerson.

Ireland Tour
By request I have contacted Educational Opportunities Tours regarding
their 10-day excursion to Ireland leaving July 12, 2004. It's a
"done deal" as the saying goes. Alumni and friends are welcome.
Some of you accompanied me on our year-2000 excursion to
the Passion Play in Oberammergau. That was a wonderful trip!
Join
me next year in Ireland and we'll have a great time seeing
the sights and talking about the brain.
You may request a brochure by e-mail or snail mail. For more
information, visit our "Irelend Tour" web page (see link below).

Brain Bender
Here
are two new brain benders. I trust you are using them to actively
challenge your brain. Remember, although they are not muscle cells,
the neurons (thinking cells) act very much like muscle cells. Neurons
respond positively to active mental stimulation and can alter and/or
grow new dendrites in a matter of minutes.

News Note
Recently
I attended a seminar on the consequences of emotional neglect in
childhood on brain development. The presenter for Bonding and Attachment
in Maltreated Children was Bruce D. Perry, MD, PhD. Perry is the
Senior Fellow of the Child Trauma Academy and Medical Director of
Children's Mental Health Services for the Alberta Mental Health
Board.
It is becoming increasing clear that the maltreatment of
children (including trauma, neglect, isolation, and/or unresponsive
parenting) can result in the child's developing an overactive
neurobiology. Critical periods exist (e.g., especially in
the first year of life) during which bonding experiences must
be present for the brain systems responsible for attachment
to develop normally.
Dr.
Perry's comments regarding sensory deprivation during development
periods were particularly alarming. You may want to explore
the Child Trauma Academy website (link below).

Point to Ponder
No
one on this planet can live your giftedness--but you. And if you
fail to do so, the universe will have been deprived of what only
you can offer. (Arlene Taylor)
You are the only person who can be your real authentic self.
No one else has the qualifications for that job! How are you
impacting your world? The sky's the limit!
